How to Add References and View Them as Insights in the Planner in KTern?

KTern allows you to link tasks with relevant signoffs using references, and visualize them directly in the Planner as insights. This guide walks you through the steps to add such references and interpret them meaningfully.

1. Navigate to the Signoffs Section
  • From the KTern homepage, launch the project you are working on.

  • Expand the left-hand panel and click on Transformation Hub → Signoffs.

2. Add a Reference to a Signoff
  • Identify the signoff you want to link a reference to and click on the "i" (info) icon beside it.

  • In the drawer that opens, scroll to the References section.

  • Click on Add New Reference.

    • Set the Type as Task.

    • In the Reference field, choose the relevant task from the list.

  • Click the Update button located at the top-right corner of the drawer to save your changes.

3. View References as Insights in the Planner
  • Navigate to Simulation → Timeline.

  • Click on “Preview the New Planner” to open the updated Gantt view.

  • Use the column selector at the top-right corner of the table and enable the Insights column.

4. Understand and Interact with the Insights
  • Tasks that have linked references will show a hierarchy icon in the Insights column, along with a reference count.

    • If no references are linked, “No Insights” will appear.

  • Click on the hierarchy icon to view a list of the references linked to that task.

    • For example, if a task is linked to a signoff named "Wave 1 - Prepare - Signoff", the reference will show the signoff name, pending approvers, planned approval date, and the overall status.

5. Launch the Linked Signoff (Optional)

  • Within the Insights popup, click on the rocket icon to open the signoff wizard and view complete details or take further action.

This feature enhances traceability and ensures your tasks are tightly aligned with key signoff milestones for seamless project execution.
