How Can You Customize Your View In The Simulation Tab To Focus On Specific Columns And Ensure A Convenient Layout?


KTern provides a comprehensive set of tools to manage project timelines and simulate various scenarios effectively. This documentation outlines the features available under the Simulation tab of the Timeline section.

1. Navigating the Simulation Tab

  1. Login to KTern and navigate to the Timeline section.

  2. Click on the Simulation tab to start managing your project timelines.



2. Viewing Project Details: Collapse and Expand Views

  1. Collapse View

    1. In Collapse View, you can view the project phases at a high level.



    2. Click the "+" icon next to a phase to drill down and view the work packages beneath it.



    3. Further click the "+" icon next to each work package to see the detailed tasks under them. Continue drilling down to explore all task levels.



    4. Different stakeholders can save the project plan by work package wise by clicking on the respective navigation icon present against the work package, thereby allowing multiple users to update the simulation page at a time.



    5. Then trigger the save button after making changes, and to return back, click on the back button.



  2. Expand View

    1. Expand View allows you to see all tasks at every level with a single click.

    2. This view provides a comprehensive overview of all tasks under each work package and phase.



3. Inline Editing

  1. Inline editing is available to update task status, modify dates, and change titles directly within the view.



  2. Ensure to click the save button after making any edits.

4. Version Management

  1. To save a copy of the current plan with updates, click the "Save current version" button.



  2. Name the version plan and press enter to save it, facilitating easy reference and version management.



5. Customizing the View

  1. Resize the table and choose only the required columns for a more convenient and focused view.



6. Resource Allocation

  1. Click the "Resource Allocation" button to access detailed resource allocation information.



  2. View the count of tasks and hours assigned to each person, providing valuable insights for effective project management.

7. Filters

  1. Apply various filters to streamline your view.



  2. Remove applied filters with a single click on the cross icon.



  3. Minimize the filters section by unclicking the filter icon for a cleaner interface.



8. Redo and Undo Options

  1. Use the redo and undo options to control changes and manage your project timeline effectively.



  2. In the simulation table, any action such as deleting an item or modifying its status or title can be easily undone or redone.

  3. The undo and redo options are available to revert or reapply changes made within the simulation table, ensuring flexibility and ease of use.

9. Viewing Options - Grid View & Gantt View

  1. Grid View

    1. Default view that shows work items in a hierarchical manner along with status, dependencies, attached files, and comments.



  2. Gantt View

    1. Click the Gantt View icon to see a graphical representation of the project progress, including phases, work packages, and tasks. 



10. Flexible Data Representation Options

  1. Switch between Day, Week, Month, Quarter and Year views for flexible data representation.



11. Progress Monitoring

  1. Compare Planned vs Actual progress with planned progress shown in blue color and actual progress in yellow color.



12. Critical Path

  1. Identify tasks and phases at risk by clicking the "Critical Path" button.



  2. The critical path is highlighted in red, indicating phases, work packages, and tasks nearing the project deadline.
